NOLABA to Host Third Soulful Sunday Event Highlighting BIPOC-Owned Restaurants

Restaurants

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The New Orleans Business Alliance (NOLABA), along with My Mogul Media and Bypasslines, has announced the third event in their Soulful Sunday restaurant tour series, which is set to take place on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at I-Tal Garden located at 810 North Claiborne Ave.

Soulful Sunday was launched in 2022 in association with the Meals Dressed with Love program to spotlight local BIPOC–owned restaurants within NOLABA’s seven impact neighborhoods, including Algiers, Gentilly, Gert Town, Hollygrove, Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans East, and Tremé. The series supports the local food economy by showcasing the unique offerings and delicious menu items at each of the host restaurants while bringing people together to enjoy meaningful conversation, local entertainment, giveaways, and more.

The word “soulful” pays homage to New Orleans’ ties to soul food and the tradition of “Soul Food Sunday” across the rural South, where friends, family, and community members would gather after church services to catch up and enjoy home-cooked meals and recipes passed down from generations.

Organizers are proud to host this month’s event at I-Tal Garden, a Black and family-owned plant-based restaurant that provides healthy alternatives to traditional New Orleans-style soul cuisine, debunking the myth that healthy vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other plant-based food can’t also be tasty.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in Meals Dressed with Love by purchasing a meal from I-Tal Garden for a friend, loved one, or stranger. The program was developed to bolster and promote local food entrepreneurs through the digitalization of their business menus, as well as providing a local option for pick-up and delivery through the business website or Bypasslines app and the option to order a meal online for another person through a gift card purchase.
