Today, Seattle-based Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE: JWN) announced plans to open a Nordstrom Rack at The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk® in New Orleans, a development of The Howard Hughes Corporation®.
The approximately 35,000-square-foot store will be the first Nordstrom Rack in New Orleans and is scheduled to open in fall 2016.
“Today’s announcement of Nordstrom Rack to open at The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk is another big win for our city,” New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said. “As the nation’s first downtown outlet center, the new Riverwalk has seen tremendous success since it reopened in 2014 and Nordstrom Rack perfectly complements its other retail offerings. We are showing the world that New Orleans can support and sustain nationally recognized retailers. Together with the New Orleans Business Alliance, we’ve put a focus on attracting new retail to our city and this announcement is another sign that our plan is working.”
Nordstrom Rack is the off-price retail division of Nordstrom, Inc., offering customers a wide selection of on-trend apparel, accessories and shoes at an everyday savings of 30 to 70 percent off regular prices. The Rack carries merchandise from Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com, as well as specially purchased items from many of the top brands sold at Nordstrom. The Rack is designed to provide the ultimate treasure hunt to style-savvy customers.
Nordstrom Rack will anchor the south side of the new development, which opened in May, 2014.
Other anchors for The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk include Neiman Marcus Last Call Studio, Forever 21 and Coach as well as several other first-to-market retailers. The center itself is located on the Mississippi River waterfront near the French Quarter and steps away from the Convention Center, Spanish Plaza, Canal Street and the Ferry Terminal as well as the Port of New Orleans cruise ship terminals.
“We have been looking for more opportunities to serve customers in Louisiana and we’re excited to bring a Nordstrom Rack closer to home for customers in New Orleans,” said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack. “The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk is an excellent location and we are thrilled to be a part of the retail mix.”
The new store will be the third Nordstrom Rack in Louisiana following the Nordstrom Rack at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge which opened October 1, 2015 and the Nordstrom Rack at Ambassador Center in Lafayette which opens March 10, 2016.
“We are very pleased to be opening the first Nordstrom Rack in the city at The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, which will undoubtedly become a favorite among shoppers in New Orleans,” said Mark Bulmash, Senior Vice President of Development for The Howard Hughes Corporation. “This addition further strengthens our position as the unrivaled shopping, dining and entertainment destination in the region attracting locals and visitors alike.”
“In 2010, the New Orleans Business Alliance (NOLABA) was charged by the City and business leaders to aggressively build the retail landscape in Orleans Parish,” said Quentin L. Messer, Jr., president and CEO of NOLABA. “We’re thrilled to welcome Nordstrom Rack to the Crescent City and know they will be a highly desirable addition to The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk and Orleans Parish shopping. Gaining a new retailer of this caliber demonstrates yet again the great retail opportunity that exists in New Orleans.”
“Nordstrom has been among the national brands most requested by local residents,” said Brenda Canada, NOLABA director of retail development. “We’ve been working with Nordstrom for several years while they searched for the ideal site in New Orleans. When the anchor location in Riverwalk became available, I believed it would be perfect for Nordstrom Rack. It’s very exciting to see this project come to fruition.”
