New Orleans Entrepreneur Week 2018: NOLABA Picks
The 10th annual New Orleans Entrepreneur Week (NOEW) is from March 19-23 and presented by JPMorgan Chase & Co. to celebrates business, innovation and entrepreneurship in New Orleans. This year, NOEW is working with local partners like NOLABA to host events in locations across the city, making NOEW a citywide affair that’s more accessible and engaging in neighborhoods across the region. NOLABA staff compiled some can’t-miss events throughout the week.
Monday, March 19
5:30-8 p.m.: PowerMoves 2018 Cohort Kickoff
PowerMoves.NOLA + TheBlackProfessional.com present a special happy hour celebrating New Orleans Entrepreneurs with a special announcement from PowerMoves.Nola. Enjoy complimentary drinks from Justini Cocktails and food from Backatown, as well as headshot opportunities available throughout the evening. PowerMoves.NOLA is an initiative of the New Orleans Startup Fund (NOSF), whose mission is to create power through opportunity for minority entrepreneurs. TheBlackProfessional.com is a digital community that creates content for black professionals including job listings, local event listings and business listings.

Tuesday, March 20
10:30 a.m.-noon: NOLA Health Innovators Pitch Finale
Interested in learning about how our city is embracing cutting-edge solutions in healthcare and exploring how new technologies can transform health outcomes for all New Orleanians? NOLABA invites you to the Pitch Finale of the NOLA Health Innovators Challenge, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and Ochsner Health System, who have strategically partnered to advance health outcomes statewide through the power of innovation. Judges have chosen finalists from around the country for the Diabetes Care Challenge, and these top entrepreneurs will pitch their digital solutions for the chance to win up to $36,000 in project funding and numerous in-kind prizes.
NOLABA will also present the winners of Tulane Health System’s Navigator Challenge and Lafayette General Foundation’s Interoperability Challenge at The Shop at the CAC.
Wednesday, March 21
6:30-8:30 p.m.: Propeller Water Challenge
The Water Challenge presented by the Greater New Orleans Foundation is a Propeller initiative to solve our region’s most pressing water issues through entrepreneurship. This year’s pitch competition will award $15,000 in total startup funding to ideas improving urban water, coastal environments and the local water economy. The Water Challenge is presented by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, sponsored by JPMorgan Chase & Co. and supported by Entergy Corporation.
Pitches will follow a keynote by Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell. Tickets are free, but seating is limited, so we highly encourage guests to RSVP here.
Thursday, March 22
9:30-10 a.m.: Tech & New Orleans’ Legacy Industries
As a 300-year-old city, New Orleans has many historic companies driving our economy. Big or small, local entrepreneurs and companies have the opportunity to work with legacy New Orleans industries such as food, hospitality, tourism, trade and transportation to transform the way they do and think about traditional business practices. This panel discussion at the Contemporary Arts Center will focus on how our legacy industries are working with New Orleans’ tech community and highlight opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
NOLABA Chief Operating Officer Ashleigh Gardere will moderate the discussion. Panelists are Dickie Brennan (Dickie Brennan Restaurant Group), Kenneth Purcell (iSeatz) and Arthur Bart-Williams (Vizzit).
Friday, March 23
12-12:45 p.m.: SisterHearts Film Screening
Square believes in an economy that has room for everyone’s dreams. SisterHearts is the fourth film in Square’s “For Every Kind of Dream” series, which documents the dreams of small business owners in America. The businesses’ and entrepreneurs’ stories they feature speak to a fundamental belief that dreams can be achieved when people are empowered with access to the right tools. The film is named for the SisterHearts thrift store founded by Maryam Henderson-Uloho, who was formerly incarcerated in New Orleans and opened the store after her release to help other people transition back into society.
2:30-4 p.m.: Grow Your Business in 2018: Entrepreneur Exchange
