NEW ORLEANS – The International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the largest nonprofit professional association for professional economic developers in the world, has named the New Orleans Business Alliance among an impressive group of recipients for its 2022 Excellence Awards. Recognized each year during the IEDC Annual Conference, the awards honor organizations for exemplary economic development marketing campaigns, projects, and programs. 25 award categories honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, & rural communities.

NOLABA walked away with the following awards, including two top honors, for its work over the past year:

  • Gold Award – Resilient Corridors Initiative Video (Multimedia/Video Promotion Category)
  • Gold Award – Resilient Corridors Initiative (Economic Equity & Inclusion Category)
  • Bronze Award – Youth Driven Art Murals Project (Neighborhood Development Category)

“Communities need our profession now more than ever. This year’s awardees exemplify the ingenuity, leadership, and determination needed to meet the challenges of today and the future. The winners of IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development awards represent the best of economic development and demonstrate the level of leadership that our profession strives for every day,” shared IEDC President and CEO Nathan Ohle.

Awards are judged by a diverse panel of economic and community developers from around the world. IEDC received over 500 submissions from the United States and four additional countries around the world.

“This great honor from our industry peers from around the world is truly gratifying and worthwhile,” said Greg Lawson, SVP of Strategic Neighborhood Development at NOLABA. “I would like to thank our partners including the Mayor’s Office, City Council, Arts New Orleans, and countless community organizations, who have helped us make real and meaningful impacts in the lives of New Orleanians. A lot of work remains to be done to make economic mobility real for all New Orleanians; however, this recognition validates that the public-private partnership for equitable economic development is a best practice globally and is working for our residents.”

Additionally, NOLABA’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Neighborhood Development Greg Lawson was asked to speak on an expert panel event as part of the week-long conference in Oklahoma City with our partners at Buxton on how economic development organizations can understand social determinants of health, track wellness concerns down to the neighborhood level, and partner with health systems to improve the community’s overall population health.

To watch IEDC’s awards ceremonies and connect with representatives from selected organizations and many more Economic Development organizations, register for the 2022 IEDC Annual Conference at iedconline.org/OKC.
