NOLABA Career Connections: Opening the Door to New Opportunities

career connections

NOLABA values talent as a key driver of economic growth. Alejandra Guzman explains how our organization takes a peoplecentered approach by combining workforce development strategies into business attraction and retention.

Part of this strategy includes providing assistance to professionals to leverage the many opportunities that New Orleans has to offer.

In addition to being an internationally renowned visitor destination, New Orleans offers a growing local economy and multiple opportunities for professional development. A testament to this is DXC Technology’s recent announcement that the company has chosen New Orleans to open a Digital Transformation Center with up to 2,000 permanent employees in the next five years.

New Orleans is also home to numerous colleges, universities and hospital research centers with leading programs in infectious diseases, cancer research, gene therapy, neurosciences, biostatistics and tropical medicine. Nearly 150,000 college students are enrolled in or near New Orleans.

To share this important job market and professional development information, NOLABA has designed the Career Connections Open House & Coffee Hour. In alliance with our partners GNO, Inc. and 504ward, we will hold these coffee hours on the fourth Friday of each month in 2018.

We are excited to provide a high-level overview of the job market and a snapshot of our region’s key industry sectors, an introduction to career tools and the opportunities for leadership development in our region. A great example of the leadership programs we will be sharing is the NOLABA Economic Ambassadorship Program (EDAP). This unique 7-week program starts a new cohort May 15 and is designed to inform New Orleans professionals of the factors involved in growing and diversifying the city’s economy. Because economic development is a cross-cutting issue, the program welcomes participants from a variety of sectors to become better informed ambassadors for the city.

Our Career Connections Open House & Coffee Hour will provide you with the information – and hopefully the inspiration – necessary to plan and take the next step for your professional development.

Please join us at our next Career Connections on April 27 at the NOLABA office at 8:00 a.m. RSVP here
